Outdoor Decorations
Did people in your neighborhood decorate with lights? Did some people really go “all out” when decorating? Any stories involving your ancestors and decorations?
Here is a listing of all Advent Calendar of Christmas Memories posts for today from GeneaBloggers’ member blogs:

During WW11 no outdoor lights were available and I’m sure would not have been used in the Bay area. We were subject to “air raid blackouts” often.
As I recall outdoor decorations just started with a string of lights on a roofs edge to what they are today.
When I was a little girl my dad would take me to downtown Oakland to see the magical old fashioned motion display at Breuners Furniture Store. The display
was several scenes depicting Christmas of the past.
I recall the detail of every scene and the awe I felt.
Remembering standing there holding my dad’s hand brings back some very bittersweet memories.

I felt fortunate in 1948 because my mother worked for a small electric supply business, so we were one of the first families in our area to have outdoor lights. Lots of rather big light bulbs compared to those of today.
How do we participate?

Basically, you need to have your own blog setup so you can post your stories there and I can find them and add them to the daily roll-up.
